Listen to the call of a Black-collared Starling recorded at Farm for Change on July 31, 2024.
The Black-collared Starling (Gracupica nigricollis), or 黑領椋鳥, is an omnivorous bird native to continental Southeast Asia and China, and introduced to Taiwan. On the farm, we observed it foraging, collecting grass as nest material, and cooling off under the sprinklers.
We recorded most Black-collared Starling calls between 6:00~9:00 and 16:00~18:00.
The spectrogram shows how the frequency of the call varies over time. In order to show the shape of the sound more clearly, on the postcard we used a spectrogram from this recording of the Black-collared Starling instead.
